Das Faultier This album is amazing and you should buy it in whatever form you can. Witnesses creates a soundscape that is both warm and cold, full of life as well as reminders of its bleakness. This is not just an album that you put on while you clean your living space, but deserves an active listen as well. There are beautiful, almost holy moments to this album ranging from simple to complex and I cannot recommend this sonic journey enough. 9/10 - will be cleaning my apartment to this every day. Favorite track: Farewell.

bcb723 In my opinion, most modern ambient has lost its way. Mostly sterile and overthought, it can't compare to the masterworks of the past. "IV" by Witnesses is the rare exception. This is atmospheric music at its best, filled with emotion, heart and mystery. Think Eno's "On Land/Apollo" era with the focused melodicism of early Steve Roach. Every track is essential and flows as a holistic piece. Give this one a spin late at night, you'll be glad you did. Trust me. Favorite track: The Healthy and Optimistic Among Us Will Doom the Vulnerable.

JT Corpse A saxophone appearing did not feel out of place. In fact it made this track even more morose and depressing (in a good way). Brilliant tune. Favorite track: Revenge.

nofatclips 2nd listen: love how the music weaves a cinematic atmosphere, sets the mood exactly right while foreshadowing things to come so that when vocals and sax make their entrance it's like they were always there waiting for their cue.

1st listen: a compelling collection of (mostly) short pieces. While their brief duration might seem a drawback at 1st (and an upsetting one, for many times one would love more) it is the device by which any kind of resolution is delayed up to the very end of the record. Favorite track: The Discovery (feat. MALMØ).

about

Drawing particular influence from Jóhann Jóhannsson and Dead Can Dance, IV is the latest evolution in Witnesses’ cinematic ambient soundscapes. Featuring lush strings and winds, sparse guitar arrangements, and occasional vocal passages, IV takes the listener on an ambiguous and mysterious journey through Nordic-inspired landscapes. Danish lyrics and winding saxophones cut through the compositions to add unexpected motifs. Just shy of 47-minutes in length, Witnesses IV features guest appearances by Jørgen Munkeby, MALMØ, and Gabbi Coenen. Additional guitars are provided by Matt Kozar.
